The weather is getting warmer, kind of; the birds are chirping, and you’re looking for something fun, cheap and entertaining to do this weekend. Why not check out the “Find Your Spirit” Festival celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Harmony Square!?
It’s a weekend long festival beginning this Friday, June 8 at 8 pm running right through Saturday and ending on Sunday at 5pm.
There is something there to tickle everyone’s fancy, young and old, single, couple or family. Kicking off the celebrations on Friday night is a classic rock/vintage pop concert at Harmony Square performed by SIVLE followed by a free movie screening, title to be determined. Saturday features a community pancake breakfast at the low, low cost of $2 per person, where you can connect with friends, family and neighbours over a delicious plate of pancakes presented by Downtown Central Neighbourhood Association. And for your listening pleasures by a plethora of musical entertainment of all styles and genres at the Bell Stage and the secondary stage on Dalhousie St. will feature the homegrown entertainment by the past 4 Brantford’s Got Talent winners.
Family activities include a firetruck pull with Kevin Fast, Guinness World Record Holder and son Matthew Fast, face painting, playing with clay, amartial arts demonstration by Caged Dragon, wagon rides and the list goes on and on and on.
For the more sophisticated palate we have an art battle, Apple Cider Demonstration, a display of photos of the past 10+ years of Harmony Square/Downtown, an artifact display from the Laurier/YMCA build, bath bomb making workshop, free museum tours at 57 Charlotte St. and much much more.
When it’s time to recharge your battery you can sample fare from some delicious downtown eateries. Tickets for the “Taste of Downtown” between 1pm-6pm sell for $3 per item which can be redeemed for select food item at Devlin’s Advocate, Indian Food Hut, Lonnie’s on Market, Nine North (Viet-Thai Cuisine), Nine North (Viet-Thai Cuisine) and Tim Hortons. Sunday from 12:15pm-3pm the festivities continue and you can catch a workshop or
presentation that you missed on Saturday as most of them offer an encore presentation on Sunday for your convenience.
Honestly this festival has so much to see and do that I couldn’t possibly list it all. Most activities are free and/or at very little cost and all support local initiatives and businesses. Suffice to say with entertainment, food and interactive demonstrations at every turn you can bank on a fun time for all.
